Overview

Under the supervision of the Charge Therapist and upon the request of the physician, sets up and operates various types of oxygen and other therapeutic gas and mist inhalation equipment such as tents, masks, catheters, and cannulas.  Administers prescribed doses of medical gases and aerosolized drugs.  Prepares and maintains a chart for each patient containing all pertinent background information and treatment records.  Cleans, inspects and tests inhalation therapy equipment to ensure proper operating condition.

Responsibilities

Assist your assigned lead person, supervisor, charge nurse and /or Director with various administrative tasks to             support department operations as directed.

 

1.     Administration of prescribed aerosolized medication per IPPB, small volume nebulizer, large volume nebulizer, ultrasonic nebulizer, small particle generator, aerosol tent, and oxyhood/hut.

2.     Performs arterial and capillary puncture.

3.     Performs therapeutic maneuvers such as, but not limited to chest phyical therapy, tracheobronchial aspiration, tracheobronchial aspiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the transport of patients receiving continuous oxygen therapy or mechanical ventilation.

4.     Sets up, operates and monitors adult, pediatric, and neonatal ventilators, and Bi-Pap.

5.     Performs pulmonary function studies, and oxygen saturation.

6.     Processes respiratory therapy equipment, cleaning, cold sterilizing and packaging.

7.   Initiates ordering of supplies to ensure proper par levels for equipment and supplies.

8    Performs preventative maintenance of Respiratory equipment.

9.    Sets up, operates and monitors apnea monitor, pulse oximeter, EKG, 

                   Holter, and Echocardiograms.

10.  Follows universal precaution requirements.

11.  Participates in Performance Improvement activities.

12.  Assumes Supervisor responsibilities in the absence of the Supervisor

13.  Maintain a minimum of 12 hour work shift

14.  Maintains accurate billing record for departmental charges.

15.  Collects and complies data and statistics for department.

16.  Maintains working knowledge of department programs, policies and procedures.

17.  Schedules patient testing, (Echo, Holter, EEG, Stress Test, PFT, Respiratory Therapy, ect.).

18.  Ensures proper delivery of hospital documents to other   departments.

Qualifications


EDUCATION/TRAINING:Current RCP License by the Texas Department of Health (TDH) required.

RRT Required.

 

EXPERIENCE: One year experience in Respiratory Therapy preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

                

·         Maintains a current CPR certification. 

·         ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire and maintained.

·         PALS certification required within 6 months of hire and maintained.

·         Maintain current NRP certification for all staff that work in NICU.
