  • Overview

    I.          General Responsibilities:

    Performs a variety of imaging procedures, including MRI procedures, and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the fIrst line interface with patient in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. (X-ray Technologist general responsibilities apply) To perform various technical and mechanical activities under the policies and procedures of the Radiology Dept. and to provide Radiological Care to patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomi~ and physiologic disorders. Must be able to maintain profIciencies in local, state and federal certifIcations and guidelines.

    Essentials Duties:


    1. Calibrate and perform daily QC of equipment, calls for service and notifies all pertinent team members.
    2. Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams.
    3. Practices MR imaging procedures on appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the individual site Radiologist.
    4. Completes and signs Patient Screening form and explains the procedure to the patient and other individuals needed to maintain MRI room.
    5. Maintains technical competency through continued education.
    6. Under guidance and approval of site Radiologist, administers contrast agents according to site specific protocols.
    7.  Cooperates with facility healthcare personnel and complies with facility policies and procedures.
    8. Maintains patient care, comfort and safety during transport to and from MRI.
    9. Completes necessary administrative tasks, i.e.; billing, notes, QA etc.

    12. Supports, cooperates with, and implements specifIc procedures and programs for:


    • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fITe/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/ or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
    • Maintains the confidentiality of all data, including patients, employee and operations data in the hospital and outside of the hospital.
    • Ensures Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Ensures compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from any type of harassment and illegal and discriminatory behavior.

    13. Performs procedures in a timely, proficient manner.

    14. Have great communication skills with physician, hospital staff and patients.

    15. Correlates proper patient forms, requisitions, previous films and reports for Radiologist Interpretation.

    16. Demonstrates anatomical and physiological studies through proper patient positioning, technique selection, administration of contrast media, application of immobilization devices according to department policies and procedure.

    17. Enters charges accurately and closes exams into the computer after completed procedure.

    18. Maintains all mandatory in-services.

    19. Performs additional duties as required.


    Other Duties

    1. Assist your assigned lead person, supervisor, charge nurse and /or Director with various administrative tasks to support department operations as directed.

    A.           Education/ Training:

    Must have at least 140 hours of training in MR. Graduate of AMA approved program, ARRT or Registry eligible/Must pass ARRT within 3 consecutive registries given Texas certification or eligible and current CPR.


    B.            Experience:

    Minimum of two years in General Radiographic procedures.


    C.           Knowledge/Skill/Abilities:

    1. Satisfactory completion of post-offer, pre-employment background investigation and drug test required.
    2. Ability to learn and maintain all functions of Imaging Services, including transporting, secretarial and clerical duties. Basic computer skills. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus. Competent in Numerical filing.
