Overview

Remotely monitors heart rhythm patterns of patients housed in any unit of the hospital to detect abnormal pattern variances, using telemetry equipment.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Essentials Duties:
    1. 1.      Clinical Practice
      1. Applies leads, admits and discharges patients from the monitoring system.
      2. Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances.
      3. Confirms with nurse so appropriate alarm settings are established for each patient.
      4. Observes screens of cardiac monitors and listens for alarms to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm.
      5. Informs primary nurse of variances to initiate examination of patient.
      6. Measures length and height of patient’s heart rhythm pattern on the monitor and distributes to the different units for verification by the licensed nurse.
      7. Answers calls for assistance from patients and patient inquiries from medical staff.
    2. 2.      Information Management
      1. Remains at the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) at all times. Requests and obtains relief before leaving desk.
      2. Attends a minimum of six (6) staff meetings per year.
      3. Completes mandatory BLS, TB Testing, and Basic Annual Requirements well before deadline.
    3. 3.      Safety
      1. Writes legibly, uses proper spelling and grammar.
      2. Maintains a neat and orderly CMU.
      3. Provides a safe physical and emotional environment for self, co-workers, and customers.
      4. Manages priorities while maintaining a positive demeanor.
      5. Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately.
    4. 4.      Work Management
      1. Maintains adequate amount of requisition forms at the CMU.
      2. Prepares telemetry monitoring report sheet for incoming shift.
    5. 5.      Performance Improvement
      1. Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the PDSA process.
      2. Participates in the unit’s process improvement activities.
      3. Makes suggestions for improving processes including cost containment.
      4. Takes responsibility for building and acquiring knowledge for professional growth.
    6. 6.      Work hours: 12 hours per shift

VI        Other Duties

  1. Assists House Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator, Nurse Manager, and /or Director with various administrative tasks to support department operations as directed.

Qualifications

Education/ Training: Graduate from an accredited high school or GED required. Completion of a Basic Dysrhythmia course and successful completion of basic Dysrhythmia competency test.
