General Responsibilities: Responsible for monitoring evaluation and problem solving relating to quality and appropriateness of patient care services for patients of all ages. Assesses/reassesses inpatients in a timely manner. Gives inpatient diet instructions. Plans and conducts monthly in-services for Food Service Department employees, when assigned. Coordinates department performance improvement program. Evaluates and approves menus for patients’ modified diets. Plans and conducts diet classes when scheduled. Reviews Diet Manual and diet instruction materials annually, revising as needed.
Essential Duties: 1. Prioritizing work/patients based on acuity level in order to meet deadlines set by JCAHO 2. Conducting nutritional assessments/reassessments in a timely manner 3. Educating patient/family on the nutritional management of various medical conditions as well as food and drug interaction 4. Reviewing/correcting patients’ modified diets according to physicians’ orders 5. Reviewing/revising patient menus as needed 6. Reviewing and updating Diet Manual and teaching materials. 7. Planning and conducting monthly in-services for food service employees when scheduled. 8. Educating new food service employees on regular and therapeutic diets when required. 9. Participating in community out-reach programs as needed 10. Attending patient care conferences
Qualifications: A. Education: B.S. in Food and Nutrition. Registered Dietitian (American Dietetic Association). Licensed Dietitian (Texas Dietetic Association). B. Experience: 1-2 years desirable. C. Knowledge/Skill/Abilities: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Ability to communicate with patients of all ages and educational levels. Ability to keep with new trends in diet and disease management. Ability to supervise clinical nutritional technicians and in-service food service employees.
